Kent County Drug Roundup Results To Be Announced

Every day, 2,500 teenagers use a prescription drug to get high for the first time. Prescription drugs out ranked the use of marijuana as the most used drug by youth age 15-17 in the United States. 74% of inpatient treatment by adolescents is because of prescription drug use vs. illicit drugs or even alcohol. The Kent County Adolescent Substance Abuse Coalition (ASAC) and the Kent County Sheriffs Office spent the last few months rounding up prescription drugs by providing drop-off locations throughout the county. A deputy sheriff was stationed for two to three hours on given dates in Betterton, Galena, Millington, Rock Hall, Chestertown and Heron Point to give citizens an opportunity to return expired or unused prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs to law enforcement, no questions asked. On June 16 at 11:00 a.m. the Kent County Sheriffs Office, in conjunction with ASAC, welcomes the public to an event to demonstrate the results of the Rx Roundups as the drugs are sent for proper disposal. The event takes place at the Local Management Board, 903 Washington Avenue, Suite 4, Chestertown. More information can be obtained by calling 410-810-2673.
