Queen Anne Man Charged With Assault

Police tasered and arrested a Queen Anne man who allegedly assaulted four police officers, hit a woman with a baseball bat and resisted arrest. Rodney Dewayne Coats, 45, faces four counts of assaulting a police officer and one count each of first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. Police went to the home for a reported domestic assault and heard a woman and a man screaming. When a Maryland State Police officer entered the home, Coats allegedly threatened him. The officer called for backup, and Coats again allegedly threatened both officers when they entered the house. The officers called for additional units, which arrived from the Caroline and Talbot County sheriff offices. Officers took the woman, Susan Jones, to a nearby fire station. After his arrest, police took Coats to Memorial Hospital at Easton where he was treated and released. According to police reports, Coats breath test registered a .36 blood alcohol level, more than four times the legal limit. He remains in the Talbot County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
