The president of Washington College says he will retire in 2010 after one more academic year. Baird Tipson has been president since 2004 and says he is ready to enjoy reading, writing, volunteering in higher education and spending time with his new grandson. The college’s 26th president will be 67 when he retires after the 2009-2010 school year. During his tenure, the college created new minors, secured more endowments and initiated the George Washington Book Prize. School officials say he helped the school expand its facilities and grow its student population.
