Bazaar Volunteers Celebrate Successes

Volunteers from the Bazaar at 121 Federal Street celebrated their many successes at a luncheon on April 12 at the Waterview Grill in Easton.

Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Treasurer Diane Bisanar announced that sales from the upscale resale shop made it possible for the Auxiliary to donate $113,000 to the Memorial Hospital Foundation in 2009.

“The Bazaar is the Auxiliary’s largest money maker,” Bisanar said. “What we have at the Bazaar is a circle of cooperation that benefits the community. We accept donations then sell them at reasonable prices and the money we raise is used to provide services at Memorial Hospital. Everything our auxiliary volunteers do ensures that our donors and shoppers have a pleasant experience.”

Bisanar introduced the Bazaar’s new manager, Bernadette Serie. With 25 years of experience in retail sales, she lends her expertise in pricing and merchandising the shop’s donated items and in maintaining top rate customer service.

Also acknowledged at the luncheon were Ruth Cecil and Frances Sloane, the two volunteers who oversee the process of pricing clothing and housewares when they arrive at the Bazaar. Other Bazaar chair people who spoke were Bill Jenkins, who leads the team that marks down items for special discounts, and Elva Pierce, who coordinates volunteers.

The Bazaar depends on donations of gently worn clothing, linens, dishes and other small housewares to keep the shelves stocked. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and by calling 410-822-2031 for an appointment. Consignments are accepted by appointment only.

Volunteers run the Bazaar and newcomers are always welcome. For information about becoming a Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteer, call 410-822-1000, ext. 5839.
