The dedication ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. and the open house will continues until 6:00 p.m. with tours and refreshments. Guests will have an opportunity to visit with the Satchell family and to meet the Cancer Center staff who cares for patients and their families.
When Lenny Satchell passed away in 2006, her husband, Lou, established the Lenny Satchell Fund for Shore Regional Cancer Center through the Memorial Hospital Foundation. The fund was used to build the new chemotherapy suite now open at the Cancer Center.
Mary DeShields, MD, is medical director of the medical oncology program that provides chemotherapy services through the Shore Regional Cancer Center. The chemotherapy program is staffed with certified oncology nurses and the facility is designed in a warm and comfortable “living room” style, which allows for social interaction among patients and privacy for families.
Lenny Satchell was born in 1944 and graduated from Easton High School in 1962. She married Lou Satchell on August 12, 1967. They raised their children, Steve and Kim, at their Oaklands home in Easton. An active member of the Eastern Shore community, Lenny was a volunteer for the Waterfowl Festival for over 25 years and received an award for her outstanding festival service. She was also a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.
“The dedication of the Lenny Satchell Chemotherapy Suite honors the courage with which Lenny lived with cancer,” says Brian Leutner, director of oncology services for Shore Health System. “The fund established in her name keeps her spirit alive and assists other people as they navigate their cancer journey.”
The Lenny Satchell Chemotherapy Suite is located at Shore Regional Cancer Center, 509 Idlewild Avenue in Easton. For more information about the May 18 dedication, call 410-822-1000, ext. 5222.
