At a January luncheon meeting, the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary installed officers who were elected to lead the volunteer organization for the next year.
Carole Kramer, President of the Maryland Association of Hospital Auxiliaries, welcomed three new officers and confirmed continued leadership by the existing officers. Kramer, who is also a DGH Auxiliary volunteer, said, “Presiding over the installation of officers is one of the biggest honors I have as president of the Maryland Association of Hospital Auxiliaries. Our officers have a big responsibility. They put forth their efforts to ensure the success of the Auxiliary.”
Before introducing the new officers, Kramer thanked outgoing Auxiliary President Diane McCarthy for the many contributions she made during her two-year term. McCarthy received a carnation to mark the end of her term and a Past President pin.
Reflecting on McCarthy’s service as president of the DGH Auxiliary, Patti Willis, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Shore Health System, said, “Diane has a great sense of humor and a ‘get it done’ attitude. She joins a long line of presidents whose dedication has led the Auxiliary through difficult decisions and great accomplishments.”
The members present at the luncheon welcomed Vera Block as the new Auxiliary President. She will serve along with newly installed First Vice President Ida Jane Baker and Second Vice President Joy Carpenter. The officers continuing to serve for another term are Richard Hargis, Treasurer; Yoshi Smith, Corresponding Secretary; June McKelvey, Recording Secretary; Janet Lawrence, Membership Secretary; Nancy Gales, Dues Treasurer; and members at large Carole Kramer, Suzanne Press and Doris Brohawn.
Sharing some of her goals with the Auxiliary members, Block said, “My number one goal is ‘Each one reach one.’ We need volunteers in the hospital, at the Robin Hood Shop and in the Hospitality Shop. We can increase our membership if every one of us reaches out to one person and brings them in as a member.”
Block added, “With your help and guidance, I will do everything I can in 2010 to make the Auxiliary profitable with more members to do the work.”
