Digital SLR Photo Class

Even if you actually did take the time to read the manual on your digital single lens reflex (SLR) camera, you would probably still have questions. Experienced instructor Don Dement will take student photographers’ questions and turn them into answers on technique, camera characteristics, settings, features and operation, lens selection, auto-focusing, exposure control, the histogram, filters, WB selections, mode decisions (PASM and RAW/JPG), storage and file organizing software, support equipment and special requirements. Interactive discussions and problem solving methods are an important component to this class in addition to hand-outs and hands-on demonstrations.

Basic familiarity of your camera, photography and personal computers will be helpful. Students should bring their camera and its manual. This two-day workshop will be held at the Centre for the Arts in Centreville, MD from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday, May 15 and 22. The deadline for registration is May 7. Fees for this class are $105 for Arts Council Members and $115 for non-members.

Dement has taught digital photography and editing with high acclaim at Anne Arundel Community College, Chesapeake College, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and at the Centre for the Arts since 2002. He is an award winning photographer and exhibits his work widely.

The Center for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests, and to develop new skills.
