Library Celebrates Dia With Book Giveaways

In celebration of Dia, the Kent Island Branch of the Queen Anne’s County Free Library will be giving books to children ages 14 and under between the hours of 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30.

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), known as Día, is a celebration of children, families, and reading held annually on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Día is an enhancement of Children’s Day, which began in 1925 to bring attention to the importance and well-being of children.

Also on April 30, the library will host Mother Goose on the Loose, a nursery rhyme program for children from 3 months through 36 months of age with a caregiver. The 30-minute program begins at 9:45 a.m. and repeats at 11:00 a.m.

Giveaway books are materials received from publishers and donated by community members throughout the year. Each child who visits the library on April 30 may choose one free book to keep.

All library programs are free of charge. No registration is required for Dia events.
