Step out for Breast Health at the Oxford Day 10K Race, 2010! Saturday morning, April 24th, the streets of Oxford will be filled with runners and walkers. This is the Tenth Anniversary of the popular run/walk, which kicks off the festivities of Oxford Day. The 10K Race supports breast cancer awareness and support services throughout the Mid-Shore region. The run and walk begin at the Oxford Community Center at 8 and 8:30am. All participants will receive a lite breakfast, water and a tee shirt, designed by Talbot County artist, Jessica Hurley, included in their registration fee.
The 10K run is organized by the Seashore Striders running organization, with a beautiful course through the town of Oxford and along the water. This is a great opportunity to form a team and run or walk for the cause, in honor of a survivor you know or in memory of a friend or loved one. This is an empowering event that celebrates good health and good friends!
In 2000, Judy Gannon, an Oxford resident and breast cancer survivor, inspired her friends and neighbors to come together for a common goal. That goal was to raise awareness and provide support for breast cancer programs in the area. The proceeds from this event have enabled the continuation of the very support services Judy envisioned, and are now being provided by Bosom Buddies in the Mid-Shore region.
Bosom Buddies provides services in the form of professionally led support groups, individual support counseling, as well as educational materials and comfort items for the newly diagnosed. They receive referrals from local physicians to provide services to their patients and outreach in the local community by attending local health fairs and community events. They also offer expressive workshops for survivors and speakers at their monthly meetings. All services are FREE to survivors in need. Bosom Buddies is a community based 501c3 non profit charity which serves locally and is sponsored by local businesses, grants and individuals. Business sponsorships and donations for this event are most welcome.
